Hector Shaw

Biography

“Calling to mind Solid Air era John Martyn [...] a name to watch out for.” — Folk Radio UK

Glasgow-born Hector Shaw wrote his first song aged fifteen after devouring a Joni Mitchell record. Since then, he has written many more and performed across the UK, garnering acclaim from national press for his open, literary, folk-adjacent songwriting. Lyrically, he packs rich metaphors with universal questions. Beneath the finer details, the dating-app disappointments, watercolour painting, hopeful taxi rides and greek mythology, Hector is ultimately concerned with identity, isolation, and love.

Hector released his debut EP Gravity in 2021, garnering radio play on BBC Radio Scotland, features in publications like the National and Folk Radio UK, and placements on a plethora of Spotify playlists. He had this to say about it:

“The EP is a collage of coming-of-age experiences and epiphanies. Some of the songs are introspective, others are more observational, but at its crux it’s a record about relationships, identity and growing up."
